Angboda was a jötun, wife of Loki Laufeyson, and mother of Hel, Fenrir, and Jörmungandr. Helena Mattsson portrayed her in the fifth episode of Twilight of the Gods, "The Scapegoat God." She's based on Angrboða, the mother of monsters, from Norse mythology.
Biography[]

Thor arrives at the birth of Hel.
Angboda was a jötun who fell in love with the Aesir god, Loki. They had three children despite Odin's orders for the Aesir not to lay with giants and were found out at the birth of their third child, Hel. Thor arrived to bestow Odin's judgment, taking their son Fenrir as a pet for the Aesir, casting their elder daughter Jörmungandr out to sea, and banishing Hel to the nether, where she would eventually become the queen of Hel.[1] What became of Angboda remains unknown.
Physical appearance[]
Angboda was a robust jötun with white skin, rosy cheeks, shoulder-length blonde hair, and blue eyes.
Norse origins[]
Angboda is based on Angrboða, the mother of monsters. According to the Norse legends, she was the mother of three of Loki's children: Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel. The gods foresaw disaster stemming from these children, both because of their giantess mother, but also because of their father. While the specific depiction seen in Twilight of the Gods is original, it's based directly on these ancient myths. The only notable difference is that it's Odin who enacts his judgment on Angrboða's children in the mythology, not Thor acting on Odin's behalf as seen in "The Scapegoat God." The latter also sees Odin forbid Loki from lying with giants, while the children of Loki and a giant are only an issue in the original mythology after the gods recognize their birth.
