Glaumar was the leader of the Open Hand giants of Jötunheim. He was portrayed by Peter Franzén in Twilight of the Gods, debuting in the first episode, "The Bride-Price." He was Sigrid's father.

Biography[]

Sigrid's childhood

Glaumar dotes on his daughter.

Glaumar was a respected member of the Open Hand clan of jötun living in Jötunheim and eventually became their king. He married a human woman and had three children, one of whom was Sigrid. Sigrid got her size from her mother, so her feet never touched the ground. As she grew up, she always felt out of place with everything too big for her, so she eventually decided to set out and see her mother's home village in Völsung land. Glaumar would have sawed the legs from the chairs by hand if it meant making his daughter feel at home, but this was something she had to do.[1]

Sigrid and Leif's wedding

Glaumar hosts a wedding for Sigrid and Leif.

Sigrid didn't return for years, even after her mother died. Glaumar hoped she would, but it wasn't until she was ready to be married to Leif that she would return. Glaumar was hesitant to accept a human companion for his daughter, but Leif promised peace and offered the Völsung hoard and a gift of seeds as the bride price. Glaumar agreed and the Open Hand prepared the wedding. It was crashed by Thor Odinson, whom Glaumar invited to talk elsewhere to avoid disrupting the wedding, but Thor refused. When Thor struck Glaumar's shield, the Open Hand took up arms to fight the Aesir god, but Thor easily defeated them all, crushing Glaumar's skull last. Glaumar was survived by only his daughter, Sigrid.[2]

Appearances[]

Norse origins[]

Glaumar is an original character created for Twilight of the Gods. His name, however, like the other giants of the Open Hand apart from Sigrid's, is the name of a jötun from the Nafnaþulur.
