Vanaheim was the realm of the Vanir gods. It first appeared in Twilight of the Gods at the end of its third episode, "You Will Gladden His Ravens," when revealed by Thyra's gateway magic.

Locales[]

Hall of the Vanir: When granting an audience with Sigrid's group, King Tiwaz and the Vanir met them in a great hall with Tiwaz at its head. They initially refused to provide any support for Sigrid's quest but agreed to help if they would bring back the golden apples of immortality from Asgard, where the Vanir were not allowed to tread. The hall was partially destroyed by Leif to make an escape when the apples turned out to be poisoned.[2]

Hoenir's shrine: After the Aesir god, Hoenir, was traded half-dead to the Vanir to broker peace, the Vanir built a shrine where they kept him. Those they wanted to trap and punish could be sent into Hoenir's head, where his Wyrding magic would trap them within their greatest regrets. Leif and Loki were cast into Hoenir's head after bringing the Vanir poisoned apples but were freed when Sigrid beheaded Hoenir.[3]

Territory of the First Wolves: The First Wolves, said to have been living since before the gods, lived in Vanir land. They allied themselves with the Vanir and lived in peace.[3]

Black Border: At the very edge of Vanaheim, separating the hidden kingdom from its borderlands, was the Black Border. Only the worthy could cross the Black Border and enter Vanaheim under normal circumstances, which involved a test by the Vanir. However, Egill was able to cross the border and bring the giants of frost and mountain with him by following the blood in his hand, which was connected to the Seid-Kona.[3]

Borderlands: Stretching around the Black Border were the Vanaheim borderlands. It was here that the Aesir and Vanir fought in the first war, where the Vanir found and rescued Thyra, and where Leif also eventually found and rescued Thyra as part of the Vanirs' test.[4]
